Newark, NY—Leo R. Kamalsky, 93, entered into eternity with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Friday (October 21, 2016) at the Clifton Springs Hospital

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M on Thursday (October 27^th) at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, South Main Street, Newark . Burial will be in the Glenwood Catholic Cemetery in Watertown.

Memorials, in his memory, may be made to the St. Michael Church, 401 South Main Street, Newark, New York 14513.

Mr. Kamalsky was born on June 7, 1923, in Watertown, New York, the son of the late Frank and Anna McCloskey Kamalsky. During World War II, he served in the US Navy training as a fighter pilot. He graduated from Cornell University in 1951, with a degree in Floriculture. Leo married Mary Margaret “Peggy” Sutton on May 25, 1953 at Holy Family Church in Watertown. He was an inspector for the New York State Department of Agriculture, retiring in 1987. Leo was also associated with the Cornell Experimental Station in Geneva, where he spent twelve years, in research in a cherry virus program. A communicant of St. Michael’s Church, Leo had served on its Parish Council. He was a Past Grand Knight and member of St. Michael the Archangel Council of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Newark Elks Lodge. Mr. Kamalsky was Park Commissioner for the Village of Newark and consulted with the Village on its trees. Leo was a Wayne County Literacyvolunteer and served on the Board of Directors of the Newark Public Library. For many years, he was active in the Newark Players and sang with the Wayne County Chorale.

 A devoted and lovign husband and father who placed his family above all else.  Leo is survived by two sons Paul of Newark and Alan of Canandaigua and a daughter Joan of Canandaigua; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Mary Margaret “Peg” in 2012; his siblings Tom in 1978, Claire in 1984, Chet in 1995 and Cecelia in 1934.
