Mrs. Gilbert was born on February 24, 1912, in Geneva the daughter of Paul and Magdalina Jensen Christensen. She graduated from Geneva High School. For many years, she owned and operated Gilbert's Jewelry Store in Newark with her late husband J. Frank Gilbert who died August 19, 1978. After his death, Aggie continued to run the business until her retirement in 2001. She was a registered member of The America Gem Society. She had been a communicant of St. Michael's Church. Aggie had volunteered with the Girl Scouts and Wayne County Literacy while she lived in Newark. She had been a member of the Newark Country Club and loved to golf, bowl, sail, camp and play cards. Aggie played in both the St. Michael's Catholic Church and the St. Mark's Episcopal Church bridge clubs. As a businessperson of Newark, she displayed strong civic pride and supported many Newark events with the generosity of both time and money. In the late 60's and 70's, even though her business was not located in the urban renewal sections, Aggie was a strong opponent to the renewal plan and a strong supporter of the businesses being displaced.
