Aileen Van Tyle
Newark---Aileen Van Tyle, 89, Friday (February 25, 2009) at the DeMay Living Center.
There will be no prior calling hours. Funeral services will be 11 A.M. on Saturday (Feb. 28th) at the First United Methodist Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital Foundation, PO Box 571, Newark, New York 14513.
Mrs. Van Tyle was born on April 21, 1919 in Arlington Heights, MA, the daughter of Edson and Louise Knowles Leach. She was a long time employee of Sarah Coventry Jewelry where she became Vice President of Advertising and Public Relations, the first women vice president in direct selling. Mrs. VanTyle also served on the Board of Directors. After her retirement, she worked at the Armstrong Senior Living Center. Aileen was a graduate of Upsala College and earned a graduate degree in retailing from Simmons College. She was a 60 year member of the First United Methodist Church in Newark. Aileen had served on the Village of Newark Planning Board and had been a member of the Newark Country Club.
She is survived by her children Patricia (Jeffrey) Apfel of Newton, MA, William (Susan) of Newark and Peter of Seneca Falls, grandchildren Russell (Melissa) and Elizabeth Van Tyle; Ford, Destin and Colby Van Tyle; Miles, Amber and Alexandra Apfel. Aileen was predeceased by her husband Russell in 2002, siblings Raymond Leach, Amber Rafferty, Marjorie Reigel and Edmond Leach.
