Clifton Springs/Newark---Alexander "Al" Dewa, 87, died Friday (September 26, 2008) at his home in Clifton Springs.
Friends may call from 4-8 PM on Tuesday (Sept. 30, 2008) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday (October 1, 2008) at St. Michael's Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery.
Memorials in his name may be made to St. Michael's School, 325 South Main Street, Newark, New York 14513.
Mr. Dewa was born on February 20, 1921, in Lowsville, West Virginia the son of Andrew and Antonina Plewa Dewa. He moved from Warren, Michigan to Clifton Springs in 2004. Al was a communicant of St. Michael Church in Newark. He retired in 1983 from Ethyl Corp in Ferndale, Michigan where he had been a Chemical Engineer. Al served in the European Theatre during World War II in the Army Air Corp. He was a navigator on a B17 with the 483rd Bomb Group. Al was a member of The 483rd Bombardment Group Assoc., The Air Force Navigators Observers Assoc. and The Air Force Escape and Evasion Society. After the war, Al graduated from the University of Detroit.
Mr. Dewa is survived by two sons Andrew (Keren) of Plano. Tx and Paul (Renate) of Newark, four grandchildren Theresa, Jerray, Aleksandra, and Jacob. He was predeceased by in wife Stephanie in 2005 and a sister Catherine Jablonski.
