Alfred Emmanual Loson

Newark—Alfred “Al” Loson, 83, died Tuesday (December 12, 2017) at the Wayne County Nursing Home.

Friends may call from 6-8 PM on Saturday (December 16th) and from 2-5 PM on Sunday (December 17th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday (December 18th) at St. Michael Church, South Main Street, Newark. Entombment will be in Riverview Cemetery Phelps.

Memorials, in his name, may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 435 East Henrietta Road, Rochester, New York 14620.

Al was born on January 7, 1934 in Lowville, New York, the son of late Floyd and Marie Hanno Loson. He graduated from Lowville Academy in 1952 and married his wife Jane in 1953, then graduating from Utica Tech in 1954. Al was employed at P & C. Foods from 1954 till 1962 when he opened Loson's Big M in Lyons. In 1975 till 1979 he owned The Big M in Newark and in 1976, he owned the Big M in Clifton Springs, retiring in 1998. Al's hobbies included working on Corvettes and Harley Davidson motorcycles. He was a motorcycle enthusiast competing in several Newark Enduros as well as enjoying touring the globe with trips to Africa, China, Australia, California, Florida, Alaska as well as throughout all of New York State. Trips to the Alps and to the Smoky Mountains were also made with his sons providing memories of a lifetime for all. Al also enjoyed golf in Port St. Lucie, Florida and Wayne Hills, along with boating and skiing. He was also an avid poker player.

He is survived by his wife Jane Flynn Loson; two daughters Jacqueline (Richard) Rago of Tulsa, OK and Judith Stuart of Spencerport; six sons James (Anita) of Phoenix, AZ, John (Marie) of Lyons, Jerry of Atlanta, Ga, Jeffrey (Lisa) of Irondequoit, Joseph (Korie) of Newark and Jay (Susan) of Rochester; eighteen grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Al was predeceased by his sister Mary Ellen Powers.
