Newark---Anthony R. Comella, 87, died on Friday (April 11, 2008), at the Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey.
Funeral services for Tony will be 10 AM, Friday (April 18th) at Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark, New York. Burial follow at Newark Cemetery with full military honors.
Mr. Comella was born May 17, 1920, in Canandaigua the son of Philip and Mary Comella who had settled in Newark after arriving from Sicily. He was a 1939 graduate from the Washington High School in Newark. In the Army Air Corps as a Staff Sergeant, he served in World War II in the China, Burmese and India Theater. During that time, three of his other brothers also served. The Comella home at West Sherman Avenue in Newark proudly displayed a four-star banner. He is a member of the Arcadia Memorial Post 2883, VFW. Tony had been employed for over 40 years, by the Billota Enterprises as an amusement machine repairman. He and his wife retired to Florida in 1994.
He is survived by his daughter Diane (Jerold) Goldstein and their daughters Lindsey and Raegan of New Jersey; grandson Anthony (Elise) Comella and their sons John and Anthony of Newark, brother George (Vera) Comella of Newark; former daughter-in-law Donna Comella of Lyons; several nieces and nephews.
Tony was predeceased by his wife Dorothy in 2005 a son Philip in 1994 and siblings Edward, Philip, Josephine and Michael.
