Newark/Fountain Hills AZ"Arlene Whelan, 81, died Monday (June 26, 2006) in Fountain Hills.
Friends may call on Friday (June 30th) from 4 to 7 PM at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Father Peter Clifford will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM on Saturday (July 1st) at St Michael Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in her name may be made to St. Michael's School, 320 South Main Street, Newark, New York 14513 or to the Alzheimer's Association, Rochester Chapter, 435 E. Henriette Road, Rochester, New York 14620.
Mrs. Whelan was born October 15, 1924 in Rochester, the daughter of August and Kathryn Hollahan Bluhm. She was a long time resident of Newark, where her husband owned Whelan Cadillac and Pontiac. They moved to Florida in 1985 and she has lived in Fountain Hills for the past 4 years. When in Newark, she was a communicant of St. Michael's Church and had volunteered at St. Michael's School. She had been a member of the Newark County Club, the Travelers Club, several book clubs and bridge clubs. One of her great loves was being a Docent at the Rochester Museum of Art.
Arlene is survived by her four children Douglas (Virginia) of Bradenton, Fl, Sister Mary Virginia a.p.s. of Manchester, NH, Mary Kay Whelan and Gregory both of Fountain Hills, AZ., six grandchildren Alan, Jamie, Christine, Danille, Steven and Robert, three great grandchildren Makayla, Ashtin and Savannah. She was predeceased by her husband Leo on December 20, 1988 and her sister Virginia Spellicy
