Newark/Woodhull"Barbara S. Cook, 85, entered into rest on Friday (September 8, 2006) with her family by her side at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.
Friends may call from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. on Tuesday (September 12th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Funeral Services will be at 11 A.M. on Wednesday (September 13th) at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery. A Memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday (September 14th) in the Chapel at the Woodhull Cemetery, Woodhull, New York.
Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Wayne County Humane Society, 1475 County House Road, Lyons, New York 14489 or the American Heart Society, 2113 Chili Avenue, Rochester, New York 14624, or East Palmyra Presbyterian Church, @ Rita Burn, 2520 Hydesville Road, Newark, New York 14513.
Mrs. Cook was born on June 6, 1921, in East Troupsburg, NY, the daughter of the late Clifford and Ethel Scott Symonds. She received her high school diploma from Troupsburg and Woodhull school systems. She was employed by JC Penneys, Newark-Wayne Community Hospital and retired after 25 years from the Newark State Developmental Center. Mrs Cook was a member of the East Palmyra Presbyterian Church and also was a sister in the Eastern Star. Mrs. Cook enjoyed her cottage at Sodus Point and her camp at Woodhull.
Mrs Cook will be remembered by her daughters: Sonja (Robert) Blair of Newark and Marilyn (Grant) Fletcher of Lyons, 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren, one sister Beverly Symonds of Corning; a special friend Artie Rose of Newark. She was predeceased by her husband Paul V. Cook and a friend John Haggerty and two son-in-laws, Rodney Charles Fowler and John Morganti.
