Phelps/Newark—Bessie VerCrouse, 100, died Thursday (August 13, 2015) at the Wayne County Nursing Home.

Friends may call from 12 to 2 P.M. on Wednesday (August 19^{th )} at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Funeral services will follow the calling hours at 2 P.M.. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Phelps.

In memory of Mrs. VerCrouse, volunteer hours or dollars may be made to the Wayne County Nursing Home Fund, 1529 Nye Road, Lyons, New York 14489.

Mrs. VerCrouse was born on September 28, 1914 in Joy, New York, the daughter of the late Edward and Bertha Lapp. She was an inspector for G.E. in Clyde, but she was primary a homemaker. At one time she had been a member of the American Legion Auxillary in Phelps.

She is survived by three sons Robert Wirth of Newark, Donald (Dixie) Wirth of Idaho, and Albert (Pat) Hite of Levittown, Pa.; daughter-in-law Barbara Wirth; several grandchildren including Matt, Vicky (Gregg), Jason, Catlin and Amanda Wirth; Kelly (Patrick Colacino) O'Connor and many other great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren Declan and Alina; several nieces, nephews and good friends.

Bessie was predeceased by her husbands Gilbert Wirth, Arthur Hite and Neil VerCrouse; son Arnold Wirth and daughter Betty Wirth; grandson Mark Wirth and brother George Lapp
