Newark—Carolyn Montana—84, died Thursday (March 9, 2017) at the Leo Center of Caring in Rochester.
A funeral service for Carolyn and her husband Harold will be held at 2 PM on Friday (March 17th). Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Phelps.
Memorials, in her name, may be made to the First United Methodist Church, PO Box 189, Newark, New York 14513.
Carolyn was born April 14, 1932 in Clyde, the daughter of Elmer and Helen Schnabel Barnes. She was a graduate of Clyde Central School in 1949. Carolyn was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newark and the Kings Daughters in Canandaigua. At one time, she was a bookkeeper for Empire Crafts and Home Decorators, a Division of C.H. Stuart, Inc. in Newark. Carolyn retired in 1992 from Lincoln Elementary School where she was a much loved teacher's aide for 32 years. Carolyn was a proud member of the GOB, “Grand Old Broads”.
She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Harold on Tuesday (March 7th) and a daughter Yvonne Schott in 2003. Carolyn is survived by her son Bruce of Newark, two grandchildren Ellen Schott of Manhattan and Eric (Meghan) Schott of Rochester;son-in-law Jeff Schott of Canandaigua; nine siblings Alvin (Betty) Barnes, Eleanor Pearson, Beverly (David) Dayton, James (Mary) Barnes, Robert Barnes, Barbara Brown, Richard (Rosalie) Barnes, Virginia (Richard) Hicks and Steven (Nancy) Barnes; many nieces and nephews.
