Cecelia DeSanto Cassavino
Newark—Cecelia E. Cassavino, 95, died Saturday (February25, 2017) at the DeMay Living Center.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 PM on Friday (March 3rd) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday (March 4th) at St. Michael Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be at a later date in Newark Cemetery.
Memorials, in her name, may be made to St. Michael Church, 401 South Main Street, Newark, New York 14153.
Cecelia was born on October 7, 1921 in Lyons, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine DeSain Justino. She was a communicant of St. Michael Church and a member of the Rosary and Altar Society and Legion of Mary. Cecelia was a foster grandparent at the Roosevelt Center and a member of the Arcadia Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her children Joseph (Margaret) DeSanto of Harker Heights, TX, James DeSanto of Clearmont, Fla; Cynthia (John) Shipley of Newark, Corinne (Gerald) Dilgard of Newark, a step-son Carmen Cassavino of Buffalo; thirteen grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Beside her parents, Cecelia was predeceased by her husband Anthony in 1990, her step-father Peter Marro; a step-daughter Janet DeSain; eight brothers and sisters John Justino, Rocco Justino, Staff Sgt Louis Justino, Mary Pettrone, Grace Calkins, Virginia DeJohn, Flora Musolino and Tina Celso Bradfield.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and aides who cared for Cecelia through the years, especially Ashley, Laura and Meghan; Reverend Carlos Smith, Father Jeff Tunnicliff and Pat Albrecht.
