Cecil “Charlie” Fowler,
Newark— Charles “Charlie” Fowler, 92, died Sunday (August 12, 2012) at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday (Aug. 15th) at the Fairville Cemetery with full military honors.
Memorials in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1120 S. Goodman Street, Rochester, New York 14620.
Mr. Fowler was born on January 12, 1920, in Watertown, New York the son of Cecil E. and Emily L. DeLine Fowler. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1940 and enlisted in the US Navy for six years. Charlie served in the Pacific Theater during World War II and survived the sinking of the aircraft carrier, USS Wasp on September 15, 1942. He was a stationery clerk at Garlock, Inc. in Palmyra, for 35 years. He had been a member of the Palmyra Moose, the August Mauer Post American Legion and the Arcadia Memorial Post VFW.
He is survived by his wife of 69 ½ year Barbara, son Gary of Newark, daughters Emily (John) Palmeri of Williamson, Valarie Fowler of Fairport, , daughter-in-law Marilyn Fletcher of Lyons, six grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, sister Margaruite (William) Stevens of Gouverneur. Charlie was predeceased by a son Rodney Charles Fowler in 1982, one sister and five brothers.
