Charles “Charlie” Allen

Newark---Charlie Allen, 77, passed away on March 15, 2025, after a long battle with esophageal cancer.

Charlie is survived by his long-time companion, Jane Baer of Newark, NY, who was a loving caregiver to Charlie. Their life together was full of creating beautiful gardens, going for hikes, making ice cream trips, and enjoying each other’s company. His family is so grateful.

Charlie is also survived by his children Lori (Mark) Allen Bays, Kevin Allen, Katrina (Jeremy) Harris, beautiful grandchildren Alyssia, Dahlia, and Owen Harris, brother John Allen of New Jersey, and sister Mary Kay Allen of Vermont, as well as nephews, a niece, and many friends. He is predeceased by his parents Harry and Betty (Batholomew) Allen.

Showing up was Charlie’s strength and gift to his family and friends. He was short on words but big on giving his time and presence. Throughout his children's and grandchildren’s lives, he showed up to games, concerts, ceremonies, parties, first day of school breakfasts, and whatever was to be had. Later in life, he became an integral part of a group of friends who looked out for one another. He was always there to go for a hike, give a ride to a gathering or appointment, or go for coffee.

Charlie was a role model for us all in perseverance and turning one’s life around. He took it one day at a time into a new life full of loved ones. Charlie would want his family and friends to know they have the strength to make their lives better and to take advantage of opportunities to commit acts of kindness.

As per Charlie’s wishes, no public services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trailworks, Inc. P.O. Box 43 Williamson, NY 14589 or Trailworks.org.
