Clayton W. Cornwell
Newark/Himrod---Clayton W. Cornwell, 89, died Saturday (August 16, 2014) at The Homestead in PennYan with his wife of 64 years at his side.
Private services will be at the convienence of the family with burial in Newark Cemetery.
Clayton was born on December 30, 1924 in Newark, the son of the late John and Iva Schlect Cornwell. After graduating from Newark High School in 1942, he joined the US Navy serving
the remainder of World War II. He continued his education after the service, graduating from Cornell University in 1950. Clayton farmed in Arcadia and built much of his own farm machinery. He also did carpentry work and in his retirement he like building windmills. Clayton and his wife loved to travel going to many places throughout the world. He was a member of the American Legion in Penn Yan.
Clayton is survived by his wife Mary Jane (DeBarr) of Himrod, children John (Mari) of SanLeon, TX, Jeffrey (Deborah) of Cambridge, MD and Mary Lisa (David) Maslyn of PennYan; three grandchildren Margaret and Rachel Maslyn, Benjamin Cornwell; three brothers Robert (Gloria) of Lyons, Paul of Newark and George (Kathy) of Satsuma, FL; several nieces and nephews.
