Donald R. DeClercq
Newark—Donald Richard DeClercq, 85, pass away peacefully on Wednesday (November 7, 2018) at the First Health Hospice in West End, North Carolina. He died of complication of Alzheimer's with his daughter at his side.
Friends may call from 4-7 PM on Friday (November 16th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday (November 17th) at St. Michael Church, South Main Street, New York. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery in Palmyra.
Memorials, in his name, may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 435 East Henrietta Road, Rochester, New York 14620.
Don was born on March 3, 1933 in Baldwinsville, New York, the son of the late Frank C. and Mary Mahoney DeClercq.
Don was a proud veteran. He served in the US Navy from September 1952 to April 1954. After his military service Don joined the New York State Police in 1955. He retired in 1977 as an Investigator. After retiring, Don worked for Grossmans Lumber Company as a Regional Loss Prevention Manager for another twenty-two years. He was happily married for 46 years to Patricia Ann Lyke, who preceded him in death. After his wife death in May of 2014, he moved to North Carolina to live with his daughter and her family.
He is survived by his daughter Colleen (Timothy) Trimberger of Sanford, NC; a son Chris (Marcia) of Farmington, NY. Don was the proud grandfather of Julia, Emily, Megan, Hunter and Samantha; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Don was also predeceased by a brother Raymond in 1988. www.murphyandsonsfuneralhome.com
