Newark ---Donald A. Smith – 81, passed away on Saturday (October 5, 2013) at the Blossom View Nursing Home in Sodus
Friends may call from 2- 4 P.M. on Wednesday (October 9th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark where a funeral service will follow at 4 P.M.Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lyons with full military honors.

Mr. Smith was born on February 16, 1932 in Flint, Michigan the son of Charles and Bessie Martin Smith. He served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Don was a member of the US Army Reserves from 1974 to 1980 and went into active duty with the Army in 1981.He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1992. He was a member of St. Michael Church and the August Mauer Post American Legion. Don volunteer at several jobs with the Wayne County Department of Aging, but primarily helped people with their taxes.He enjoyed working on his computer and researching his ancestry.Don was an avid reader and loved the Mets.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Arlene Rehkugler Smith; his children Sherry (David) Carr of Newark, Scot of Rochester, Stephanie (John) Sumislawski of Auburn, Suzanne (Bernard Tibbs) VerStraete of Newark, Stuart (Lena) of Fort Worth, TX; eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; his sister Beverly Vickerman of FL, and his brother Jack of Flint, Mich., several nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his parents and three siblings.
