Newark/Geneva---Dorothy M. Fanning, 88, died on Friday (August 15, 2008), at the Geneva General Hospital.
Friends may call Tuesday (August 19th) from 4 " 7 PM at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Father Mark Brewer will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM on Wednesday (August 20th) at St. Michael's Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael's School, 325 South Main Street, Newark, New York 143513 or to DeSale's High School, 90 Pulteney Street, Geneva, New York 14456.
Mrs. Fanning was born on March 20, 1920, in Java Center, New York, the daughter of Clifford and Loretta Dalton Hovey. She was a graduate of Canandaigua Academy in 1938. She was a long time resident of Newark and recently resided at Seneca Lake Terrace in Geneva. Dorothy worked as a hairdresser in her mother's beauty shop in Canandaigua as a young woman and then spent many years raising and caring for her family. In the 1970s, Dorothy was a real estate agent in Newark. She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church in Newark.
She is survived by two sons Michael (Nancy) of Alexandria, Va. and Jeffrey (Karen) of Geneva, five grandchildren Mathew, Kathleen, Ryan, Kevin and Christopher, a great granddaughter Isabelle.
In 1998, Dorothy was predeceased by love of her life Robert Fanning after 52 years of marriage. Also predeceasing her are a daughter Kathleen in 1973, a sister Margaret Lytle in 2004 and a brother Robert Hovey in 2008.
