Newark/Sodus Point"Dorothy "Dottie" Vandemortel, 78, of Sodus Point, died Tuesday (May 16 2006) at the Clifton Springs Hospital.
Friends may call from 4-7 M on Thurs (May 18th) Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Funeral services for Dottie will be at 11 AM on Friday (May 19th) at the Park Presbyterian Church, Maple Court, Newark. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery, in Phelps.

Dorothy was born on March 6, 1928, in Clifton Springs, the daughter of Edgar Perry and Alta Haight Hicks, II. She grew up in Phelps. After graduating from Rochester Business Institute in 1946, Dottie moved to Newark. She was employed as a medical secretary for several dental and medical offices. She retired from the Wayne Ontario Library System in 1989. Dorothy was elected to the Newark School Board, serving six years. She was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church and the Sodus Bay Historical Society.
She is survived by her husband Eugene "Gene" Vandemortel, a daughter Anne (Joseph) DeBlois of Baldwinsville, twin sons Edward (Jill) Mundy of Geneva and James (Mary) Mundy of Palmyra; four grandchildren Aubree DeBlois, Jordyn, Kathryn and Jonathon Mundy, a brother Robert Hicks of Brockport. Dorothy was predeceased by a brother Edgar Perry Hicks, III.
