Newark—Edward J. Diamond, MD, 91, died Monday (October 19, 2015) at the DeMay Living Center.
No prior calling. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Thursday (October 22nd) at St. Michael Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in East Newark Cemetery.

He was born on September 29, 1924, in Paisley, Scotland, son of the late John “Jack” and Rose Duffy Diamond. After graduating from high school in 1942, Ed joined the Royal Air Force in the United Kingom and had been sent to Texas to train for flying spit-fires airplanes. At the end the War in Europe and with the War in the Pacific continuing, he was commissioned into the Royal Navy, training to land his plane onto an aircraft carriers. After the end of World War II, Ed spent the next eight years at the University of Glasgow Medical School. In 1952, he came to New York to serve his internship in Queens , he also married Janet Overend of Glasgow in Astoria, Long Island that year. In 1955 and for the next three years, he was a resident at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. While there, Dr. Diamond became the first team doctor for the Rochester Amerks.
In 1958, Dr. Diamond moved to Newark and setup his medical practice in general surgery, serving Wayne County until his retirement in 1996. He was a communicant of St. Michael Church where he was usher for many years. Ed was elected to the Newark Village Board in 1967, serving till 1971. He also served on the Board of Directors of Columbia Bank. He was an avid pilot, loved fishing and playing golf. Using his wit and humor, Ed was called upon many times to be the Master of Ceremonies at area banquets.
He is survived by his wife Eleanor Maguire of Ontario, three sons Peter (Sherry), Michael (Sandy) of Newark and Charles (Sallie) of Broomfield, CO; ten grandchildren; a brother Charles of New Castle, England and a sister Rosemary Haslach of Prescott, AZ. Ed was predeceased by his first wife of 54 years, Janet in 2006; three brothers and a sister
