Edward J. Roemer
Newark—Edward J. Roemer, 75, died Saturday (November 14, 2009) at his home on Snake Road.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. on Tuesday (November 17th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. A funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday (November 18th) at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Newark Cemetery.
Memorials in his name may be made to the Wayne County Humane Society, 1475 County House Road, Lyons, New York 14489.
Mr. Roemer was born on April 16, 1934 in Newark, the son of John and Nellie Kotvis Roemer. He was an electrician and a member of Local 81 IBM for over 44 years. At one time, Ed had worked as a paid fireman for the Newark Fire Department and worked for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department on car and boat patrol. From 1973 to 1999, he operated EJ Roemer & Son Excavating. He was also the Village of Newark and Town of Arcadia Dog Warden from 1984 to 1996. Ed is a member and past chief of the Marbletown Fire Department. He was one of its founders in 1970, using his home as the first fire station until the new fire hall was completed on Silver Hill Road in 1973.
He is survived by his children Deborah (James) Russell of Newark, Douglas (Toni Jean) of Penfield and David (Julie) of Lyons, nine grandchildren, a great granddaughter; two sisters Gail (Bob) Schutt of Marion, Arlene (Frank) Steffen of Penn Yan, several nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his wife Barbara Jane in 1985, a grandson Michael Russell in 1987, two sisters Bernice Roemer and Bendeane Featherly.
