Edward VerStraete
Newark ---Edward VerStraete, 92, died Friday (February 22, 2013) at his home.
Friends may call from 2-5 P.M. on Sunday (March 3rd) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Felix Dalimpuo at 11:30 A.M. on Monday (March 4th) at St. Michael’s Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Phelps.
Memorials, in his name, may be made to the Marbletown Fire Department, 6416 Silver Hill Road, Newark, New York 14513.
Mr VerStraete was born on December 26. 1920. in the Town of Phelps the son of the late Beonie and Louise Synesael VerStraete. He owned and operated his dairy farm on Snake Road since 1946, retiring in 1988. Ed was a member of the Eastern Co-op Milk Producers and the Newark Grange. He was one of the Charter Member of the Marbletown Fire Department. Ed’s great sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years. Marcia (Verdehem), children Diana Tormey. Susan House both of Newark, Frederick of Warsaw, MO. JoAnn Stransky of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; daughter-in-law Joyce VerStraete on Destin, FL.; ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a great, great granddaughter. Ed was predeceased by a son William in 1995, six siblings Vincent, Raymond, Frank, Dorothy Kneut, Donald and Marie VerStraete.
