Edwin “Bob” Ward
Newark ---Edwin “Bob” Ward, 85 died on Tuesday (July 2, 2013) at the DeMay Living Center. Funeral services will be held at 7 P.M. On Friday (July 5th) at The Kingdom Hall of the Newark Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, 201 Silver Hill Road, Newark. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery. Memorial contributions in his name may be made for Sodus Point Lighthouse, care of the Wayne County Historical Society or to The Kingdom Hall of the Newark Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Mr. Ward was born on May 22, 1928 in Tibbetts Point in Cape Vincent, New York where his father was the Assistant Lighthouse Keeper. He was the son of Edwin George and Linnie Alene (Alexander) Ward. Bob's father was transferred to Sodus Point Lighthouse when he was seven years old. He graduated from Sodus High School in 1946 and then served two years in the US Air Force. In 1950, Bob became a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses and married Jennie M. DeFelice on the 5th of August. He worked for the Newark State School for a short time. Bob took many correspondence courses over the years. Become the traffic manager for Bloomer Brother/Regal; Ruffalo/Santino Trucking and retired from Evans Chemitics/WR Grace in Waterloo. Bob was a very social person. Bob was an artist and enjoyed painting landscapes. He also designed wall murals at the Newark State School. He loved going to the Sodus Point Lighthouse, as recently as last year, greeting people and telling the history of the lighthouse. He belonged to the social committee at the Living Center. He survived by two daughters Robin (Douglas) McDonald of Newark and Mindy (Dr. Alec) Sutherland of Pittsford; two grandchildren Tracy (Sean) Burckholter and Daniel (Bethany) Cooke; a great granddaughter Brooklyn Anne Cooke; a sister Irene Norris of Lyons; many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his parents, his wife Jennie in 2010 and six siblings Bill, Arthur, Connie, Mary Lou, Emma Jean, and Jim.
