Newark--"Eleanor DeCann, 88, died Monday (December 25, 2006) at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.
Friends may call from 4-8 P.M. on Thursday (Dec. 28th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Funeral services will be at 11 A.M., Friday (Dec. 29th) at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Palmyra Cemetery.
Memorials in her name may be made to the Wayne County Nursing Home Foundation, 1529 Nye Road, Lyons, N.Y. 14489.
Mrs. DeCann was born on September 2, 1918 in Rochester, the daughter of Francis and Frances (Turner) McNamara. She spent most of her married life as a homemaker and in later years worked at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital as a housekeeper. Eleanor enjoyed music and singing and her beloved family and friends. She will be remembered for her cheerful personality and sense of humor.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Walter, DeCann, her children Virginia (Bob) Bodine of Fairville, Donald (Pauline) of Newark, Joyce (Carl) Smith of Victor, five grandchildren Becky (Dean) Teeter, Jeffery (Amy) Bodine, David (Tonya) DeCann, John DeCann and Eve (Brandon) Lauricella, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Eleanor was predeceased by her parents and three brothers and two sisters.
