Eleanor Jean Meath
Eleanor Jean Meath, age 91, passed away Friday, February 12, 2021 at Rochester General Hospital. Family and friends may call on Thursday, February 18, 2021 from 5-7 PM at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark, NY. Face masks are required. A prayer service will follow immediately after calling hours.
Memorials in her name may be made to the Wayne County Nursing Home Activities Department, 1529 Nye Road, Lyons, NY 14489.
Eleanor was born November 2, 1929 in Geneva, New York and was the daughter of Edward and Juanita (Warne) Shephard. Eleanor grew up in Geneva, met her husband James Thomas Meath, and they were wed on September 30, 1952 at St. Stephen’s Church. Eleanor was a feisty, spirited and energetic person. When she made an entrance, her presence was felt by everyone in attendance.
Eleanor obtained her LPN certificate at the Marion S. Whalen School of Practical Nursing in Geneva, NY. She then obtained her RN at FLCC. She was employed at Newark Wayne Community Hospital and served most of her career working in the OR/ Same Day Surgery Unit, which is where she retired after 30 years of service.
In her spare time, and with her dearest friends, Eleanor loved to travel, quilt, and play bridge. She also loved crafting, reading and enjoyed supporting any athletic or school event that her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved in.
Eleanor is predeceased by her devoted husband, James T. Meath Sr. and her son Michael Robert Meath. She is survived by her children James (Gail) Meath Jr., Debra (Stephan) Wlodarczyk; grandchildren Jennifer (William) Murphy, Jason (Carrie) Meath, Sarah Elyse Wlodarczyk, Stephan James Wlodarczyk; great-grandchildren Ashley (Hunter) Murphy, Ryan Murphy, Hayden Meath, Evan Meath; brother-in-law Leo (Gary) Meath, sisters-in-law Dorthy (Edward) Meath, Connie (Paul) Shephard and several nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to thank all the caregivers and staff at the Wayne County Nursing Home who provided so much care and support for her.
