Newark—Eleanor T. Hale, 99, died on Saturday (March 21, 2015). at the DeMay Living Center
Family and friend may call from from 1 – 3 P.M. on Wednesday (March 25th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeal Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark where funeral services will follow at 3 P.M. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials, in her name, may be made to American Cancer Society, 1120 South Goodman Street, Rochester, New York 14620.
Mrs. Hale was born on May 18, 1915 in the Lisbon, New York, the daughter of the late Arthur and Inez Griffith Newcombe. She had been the head cook at the Bedfore Hills Women's Correctional Faciality and at the Newark State School, retiring in 1972. Eleanor had been a member of the Amitie Chapte, Order of Eastern Star. She loved to quilt and has made quilts for almost all of her family. Eleanor had earned several ribbons for her quilts at the Florida State Fair.
She is survived by her three sons Robert “Red” (friend Connie Frank) Thomson of Newark, Edward (Gail) Thomson of Raleigh, NC and Stephen (Marilyn) Thomson of Williamson; eleven grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Gerald Hale, four brothers and six sisters.
