Newark"Eligio Irizarry, 80, died Sunday (February 11, 2007) at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.
Friends may call on Tuesday (February 13th) from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Wednesday (February 14th) at St. Michael's Church.

Mr. Irizarry was born on April 10, 1926 in Yauco, Puerto Rico, son of Emilo and Lilia Figueroa Irizarry. After moving to Newark, he worked for Jackson and Perkins Nursery and retired from Hallagan Manufacturing in 1992 where he was a carpenter in the framing department. Eligio was a communicant and usher at St. Michael Church and did various volunteering throughout the community.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years Maria, a son Alex of Auburn, three daughters Eliza (Christopher) Herring of North Rose, Lidia and Idalia Irizarry both of Newark, eight grandchildren. The eldest of eleven children, Eligio, is survived by seven sibling Lucinia, Lucy and Lydia of Connecticut and Evelio, Eduvina, Nori and Arnaldo of Puerto Rico.
