Newark"Elizabeth M. Barrett, 89, died on Tuesday (September 19, 2006) at the home of her son Daniel.

Friends may call from 4-8 P.M. on Friday (September 22nd) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Father Peter Clifford will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM on Saturday (September 23rd) at St. Michael's Church, 401 South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in the Newark Cemetery.

Memorials in her name may be made to the St Michael School, 320 South Main St. Newark, New York 14513 or the House of John, 14 Spring St., Clifton Springs, New York 14432.

Mrs. Barrett was born on June 15, 1917, in Malone, New York the daughter of John W. and Nina Chapin Murphy. She graduated from Marywood College in Scranton PA and did her graduate work at New York State University at Brockport. Mrs. Barrett retired in 1981, from the Williamson Central School where she taught reading for over 20 years. Liz was a communicant of St. Michael's Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and with the Martha Ministry. She was also a member of both the Rosary and Altar Society and the Legion of Mary. For many years, she volunteered at St. Michael's School and the Newark Food Closet.

She is survived by four sons John "Josh" (Mary Lee) Jr. of Newark, James (Katie) of Durango CO, Timothy (Kathleen) of Syracuse, Daniel (Cyndi) of Newark; two daughters Anne (Tim) McClain of Troy, MI and Kathleen (Bruce) Bradley of Newark, sixteen grandchildren, two step grandchildren, a brother John (Polly) Murphy of Malone, several nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband The Honorable J. Willis Barrett in 1992 and a daughter Mary Elizabeth in 1995, two sisters Mary Murphy and Kathleen O'Leary.
