Newark"Blondie Bassett, 87, on Friday (March 16, 2007) at the Wayne County Nursing Home.
Friends may call from 4-7 P.M. on Monday (March 19th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Funeral services will be at 11 A.M. on Tuesday (March 20th) at the St. Mark's Episcopal Church, South Main Street Newark with Rev. Carmen Rae Seufert officiating. Burial will be in the Newark Cemetery.
Memorials in her name may be made to the St. Mark's Episcopal Church or one's favorite charity.
Mrs. Bassett was born on July 30, 1919, in Sodus Center, the daughter of Cornelius and Julia Colmunt Toye. She retired from the Newark State School where she had worked in the Laundry for over 20 years. Prior to that she had worked for Bloomer Brother for 20 years. Blondie was a very active member with her church, St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Newark. Over the years, she was also a hard working volunteer and member of the auxiliaries of Newark Elks Club, the August Mauer Post American Legion and the Arcadia Memorial Post, VFW. She was a long time member of the Amitie Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by a brother Edward Toye of Canton, Ga., several nieces and nephews and many good friends. Blondie was predeceased by her husbands Kenneth Cady in 1980 and Albert "Hank" Bassett in 2001. She was also predeceased by sisters Augusta Stevens, twin sister Mary Potter and Salina DeSchepper, brothers Peter, Augustus and Cornelius Jr., Albert Toye and Gabriel DeToye.
