Newark—Eugene F. Block, 76, died Saturday (March 25, 2017) at the DeMay Living Center.

 

Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday (March 29th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday (March 30th) at St. Michael Church, South Main Street, Newark.

 

Memorials, in his name, may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Rochester Chapter, 435 East Henrietta Road, Rochester, New York 14620.

 

Eugene was born March 2, 1941 in Rochester, New York, son of the late Herman and Marcella Schultz. Block. He attended St. Boniface School and Edison Tech in Rochester before joining the US Navy for four years in 1958. Gene had work for ten years for Kodak in the Hawkeye Plant and for several years as a tugboat captain on the Great Lakes. He worked many years before his retirement for Chrisanntha Construction in Gorham. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church. Gene had been actively involved with the many youth programs of his sons. Along with his wife, he enjoyed dancing as a member of the Kountry Kuzzins. He like playing golf, woodworking and traveling to music concerts.

 

Gene is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sharon; his three sons, Kenneth (Traci) of Lyons, Michael (Lynda) of Newark and Richard “Ricky” (Christine) of Clifton Springs; seven grandsons Ian, Zach, Ben, Emerson, Dillon, Dylan, and Jason; two great grandchildren Nola and Eiza; two brothers Wayne (Kathy) Schultz and Fredrick Wagner several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sibling David Wagner and Christine Wagner.
