Frans Monje
Newark ---Frans Monje, 84, of South Main Street, died Tuesday (May 24, 2005) at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Friends may call from 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Thursday (May 26th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Funeral services will be at 11 AM. on Friday (May 27th) in Chapel of the Park Presbyterian Church, Maple Court, Newark with the Rev. Deborah Grohman officiating.
Mr. Monje was born September 10, 1920, in Ecknand of the Netherlands the son of Petrus and Pietranella Monje. During World War II, Frans was a decorated member of the Dutch underground. He was captured by the German Army and later liberated by the Americans. A master plumber, Frans came to the United State in 1950 and operated his plumbing and heating business in Newark until just recently. He was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church and had been a Sunday school teacher. Mr. Monje was a foster grandparent in the Newark Schools for several years, a volunteer with Newark Police Auxiliary and a member of the Newark Elks. Frans was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Johanna "Joan" Monje, a daughter Pietranella "Nellie" Colarocco of Newark, four grandchildren Marina (Matthew) Crider, James (Susan) Westcott, Johanna (Lawrence) Hammond and Thomas A. Colarocco; six great grandchildren, four brothers and sister survive in the Netherlands. He was also predeceased by four brothers and sisters
