Newark"Dr. Frederick T. Zugibe, Jr. of East Avenue, died unexpectedly on Monday (November 20, 2006).

Friends may call from 4-8 P.M. on Wednesday (November 22nd) and from 1-3 P.M. on Thursday (November 23rd) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Father Peter Clifford will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday (November 24th) at 11 A.M. at St. Michael's Church, 401 South Main Street, Newark.

Donations may be made in Dr. Zugibe's honor to the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital Foundation, PO Box 571, Newark, New York 14513.

Fred was born February 2, 1952 in Suffern, New York, the first child of Frederick and Catherine O'Leary Zugibe. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Anna, on August 4, 1973.

He earned his Medical Degree from New York Medical College in 1978, completed his Residency at the University of Rochester in 1981 and completed his Cardiology Fellowship at Strong Memorial Hospital in 1983. Fred moved his family to Newark in 1983, joining the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital staff and started his cardiology practice here. He has practiced exclusively in Newark for the past 23 years and started a second practice in Canandaigua in 1998.

Fred's greatest passion was creating his vineyard with his three sons on Seneca Lake. It brought him so much joy to spend all of his free time working outside with his boys. He and Anna were proud to be able to bring their family together and provide them with an exciting future.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Fred is survived by his wife of 33 years Anna, three sons Frederick III (Amy) of Geneva, Brendan of Canandaigua, and Sean of Geneva, a grandson Frederick IV, his parents Frederick and Catherine of Garnerville, New York three brothers Thomas (Peggy) of Garnerville, Matthew (Carol) of Stony Point, Kevin of Pearl River, three sisters Theresa (Stephen) Mandracchia of Warwick, Mary (Peter) Raleigh of Warwick, and Cathryn (Thomas) Blaber of Ballston Lake and several nieces and nephews.
