Newark"Fredrick J. DeVries, 77, died Wednesday (June 21, 2006) at the Wayne County Nursing Home.

Friends may call from 9 " 9:30 AM on Monday (June 26th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Father Peter Clifford will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM on Monday (June 26th) at St Michael Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in St Francis Cemetery, Phelps.

Memorial contributions in his name may be made to St. Michael's Church, 401 South Main Street, Newark, New York 14513.

Mr. DeVries was born in Phelps, New York on December 31, 1928, the son of Anton and Alice Polee DeVries. He was a 1947 graduate of Newark High School and continued his education, graduating from Niagara University with a degree in education. Fred owned and operated DeVries Gardens on West Union Street along with several other businesses with his brother-in-law including the car wash. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church. Fred was active with the Vince Lombardi football program in Newark and had served as the organizations president.

Mr. DeVries is survived by his loving friend Theresa Dabbracci of Penn Yan, two sisters Ann (Fred) Burgess of Newark and Betty (Robert) Griffith of Deltona, FL., many nieces and nephews.
