Newark/Macedon---Garrett P. Smith, 85, died Monday (November 3, 2008) at his home in Parkwood Heights, Macedon.

Funeral services will be held a 1 PM on Friday (November 14th) at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was born September 23, 1923, in Newark the son of Carleton and Ethel Peirson Smith. He graduated from Newark High School in 1941, when attended Union College in Schenectady. In December 1942, he joined the Army Air Corp. Garry was stationed in Guam and Okinawa and was a pilot of a B29, flying missions over Japan.

Garry worked for 24 years at C.H. Stuart Company, 14 years as manager of the Harrison Street Plant, followed by 15 years at the Pennwalt Corp. in Rochester and 12 years at Proven Designs in Gananda. He was a member and twice vestryman of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. A past Commodore of the Sodus Bay Yacht Club, Garry was member of the Board of Directors of the Alex Eligh Community Center, a member of Newark Lions Club, Newark Elks Club, the Newark Country Club, August Mauer Post American Legion and the Arcadia Memorial Post Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by a son Roger P. Smith of Cincinnati, OH, two daughters Kimberly Smith (Michael Ball) of Palmyra and Marilee Smith of Portland OR, two grandchildren Brandon Garrett P. Smith-Lamb and Michael Roger P. Smith, a sister-in-law Mavis Smith of South Miami, FL, a niece Lesley (Robert) Tzimenatos and nephew Christopher J. Smith. Garry was predeceased by his wife Virginia in 2001 and a brother Roger in 2007.
