George H. DeMay
Newark ---George H. DeMay, 85, died Saturday (Dec. 15, 2012) at his home surrounded by family.
Friends may call 4 to 7 P.M. on Monday (Dec. 17, 2012) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday (Dec. 18th) at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Newark Cemetery.
Mr. DeMay was born February 17, 1927 to the late Ivan and Margaret Deys DeMay. He served in the Army and was stationed in Germany. George married his love Betty Lyke in January of 1948. George owned and operated DeMay Disposal for over 35 years. He sold the business and retired in 1985. Most of all, George loved his family, but he had a passion for golf, horseshoes, and bowling. He was able to participate in those activities up until three years ago. George was a member of the Newark Fire Department for over 50 years and was a former Chief. In the 1970s, George served on the Town of Arcadia Board.
George is survived by his wife of 65 years Betty, a son Ken (Patti) of Newark, two daughters Sandy (Bill) Arbogast of Newark and Kelly (Jason) Boynton of Virginia. Six grandchildren Heather (Justin Hamm) DeMay of Florida, Brian (Caitlin) Arbogast of Newark, Dori Arbogast of Newark, Scolaighe (Masha) Goebert of Kentucky, Donovan Goebert of Virginia and Teaghan Boynton of Virginia, his sister Ivarene Norcott of Waterloo many nieces, nephews and his lifelong friend Don (Barb) Brunner. Mr. DeMay was predeceased by his parents, a son Ivan, a grandson Michael Arbogast and brothers Archie, Karl and Ron.
His family would like to thank Dr. Hannan, Dr. Tolomeo, the Newark Ambulance, Newark Hospital, and the DeMay Living Center for all of the wonderful care over the past few years. Most of all we would like to thank all of his aides, you girls are the best.
