George Matsumura

Phelps/Newark--- George Matsumura, 81, died on Sunday (November 6, 2011) at the Wayne County Nursing Home in Lyons.

               Friends may call Wednesday (November 9^th) from 12 -1 P.M. at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark where a funeral service will follow the calling hour.  Burial will be in East Newark Cemetery.

          Mr. Matsumura was born on January 19, 1930 in Honolulu, Hawaii.  After graduating from high school, he joined the US Army serving three years during the Korean Conflict in the 501th Signal Company.  After his military service, George continued his education and became a civil engineer traveling the world as he worked.  He had lived in Newark for several years and then at Vienna Gardens in Phelps before going to the nursing home.

George enjoyed keeping up to date with current affairs, civil rights and health care issues.

          He is survived by many friends including Carol and Richard Ocque of Palmyra.
