Newark—Gerald L. Rohrer, 83, died Sunday (Nov. 4th) at the DeMay Living Center.
Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday (Nov. 8th) and Friday (Nov. 9th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday (Nov. 10th) at the Lighthouse Baptist Church, 1000 South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in East Newark Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers memorials, in his name, may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 1645 West 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505 or the Lighthouse Baptist Church, 1000 South Main Street, Newark, New York 14513.
Mr. Rohrer was born on May 13, 1929 in Rohrerville, Maryland, the son of the late Charles and Mary Hines Rohrer. A Korean War veteran, Jerry had enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1947, serving four years. He attended John Hopkins University and became a sales representative and manager for several companies in the agri-chemical industry. Jerry was a member of the Newark Masonic Lodge and the Rochester Consistory. He belongs to the Damascus Shrine of Webster, the Royal Order of Jesters and President of the Wayne County Shriners. He is a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church, the Gideons and the Newark Elks Club.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lois Robinson Rohrer, his children Kenneth (Deborah) of Troy, OH, Linda (David) Snyder of Newark, Gary (Nina) of South Plainfield, NJ, and Lisa (Martin) Grimes of Clifton Springs; nine grandchildren and a great grandson; two brothers Wilmer (Shirley) and Donald (Merry) Rohrer of Ocean City, MD., several nieces and nephews. Jerry was predeceased by his parents and two sisters Marjorie Mogensen and Evelyn Kesecker.
