Gerald A. "Rip" Van Winkle
Rochester/Newark--- Gerald Van Winkle, 55, entered into rest on Wednesday (February 11, 2009) after a long illnes with family and friends at his side.
Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Friday (February 13th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Funeral services will follow at 8 PM with the Rev. Carlos Smith officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 2113 Chili Ave., Rochester NY 14624 or the American Lung Association, 1595 Elmwood Ave., Rochester, NY 14620.
Mr. Van Winkle was born on January 4, 1954 in Newark, the son of Albert and Nina Murray Van Winkle. He was the grounds supervisor at the Pines of Perinton for many years. He joined the US Army in 1972, serving two years before receiving a medical discharge. Rip loved the outdoors, camping and most of all his family.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 20 years Tammy of Rochester, three daughters Amy and Jessica Van Winkle of Webster and Kara (Scott) French of Rochester, a son Paul (Laura) Padoleski of Hilton, eight grandchildren Eli, Kirsten, Sara, Amber, Jason, Owen, David and Alexander, sisters Elaine Pisciotti and Mabel Murray, brothers Marvin, Ricky and Robert all of Newark, brother-in-law Johnny (Marli) Bernstine, special friend Alex and several nieces and nephews.
