Lyons/Newark--- Gerald W. Verkey, 75, died Sunday (February 19, 2012) at his home.

            Celebration of Jerry’s life will be held from 3 P.M. – till on Thursday (February 23^rd) at the Palmyra Moose Club # 1420, 3808 Route 31, Palmyra.

            Memorials, in his memory, may be made to Rochester Chapter, American Diabetes Association, 160 Allens Creek Road, Rochester, New York 14618

            Mr. Verkey was born on September 22 1936 in Sodus, the son of John and Winifred Gent Verkey.  He graduated from Wayne Central School in 1955.  Jerry served in the US Navy for six years aboard ships in the Atlantic and in the Mid East.  He worked as a mechanic for 33 years for American Can Company in Fairport, retiring in 1992.  He was an active member of the Palmyra Moose Club #1420.

            Jerry is survived by his significant other of 40 years, Alice Buck, three sons Michael (Shari) of Tunnel Hill, IL, Scott of Macedon and Kenneth (Kristin) of Newark; seven grandchildren; two sisters Mary Ragland of Webster and Joan (Paul) Castiglione of Newark; three brothers Jan (Ethel) of Leesburg, FL, Ronnie (Gabe) of Clyde and Fay (Melissa) of East Palmyra; several nieces and nephews.
