Newark-- Glenn A. Young, 80, died Wednesday (July 30, 2008) at his home on Hydesville Road.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Friday (August 1st) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Funeral services will be at 2 PM on Saturday (August 2nd) at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Palmyra Cemetery.
Memorials in his name may be made to East Palmyra Fire Department or the East Palmyra Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Young was born on January 14,1928 in Town of Palmyra, the son of Vernon and Leah Poyzer Young. A life long resident of the area, he graduated from Newark High School in 1946. Glenn was a designer and builder of many homes in the area. He was dedicated to the restoration of old homes. An avid Lake Ontario sailor, he loved to restore boats. He was a member of both the Rochester Home Builders Association where he served on the board and the Wine Country Classic Boat Association. He was a member of the East Palmyra Presbyterian Church. Glenn was active in the Newark Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He also belonged to the Newark Masonic Lodge and the Newark Elks Club. Glenn served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bernice Humbert Young, his mother Leah P. Young, his sons Scott (Jayne) of Fairport, David (Julia) of Newark, Timothy (Kimberly) of Fairport, seven grandchildren Michael, Jason, Laura, Nicole, Zachary, Joshua and Nathan; two sisters Ellen Rich of Marion, Jane McPherson of Fairport, several nieces and nephews.
