Gloria D. Sheehan
Newark—Gloria D. Sheehan, 92, died Monday (November 16, 2009) at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.
Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. on Thursday (November 19th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M. on Friday (November 20th) at St. Michael’s Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in East Newark Cemetery.

Mrs. Sheehan was born on August 16, 1917 in Iron Mountain, Michigan, the daughter of Antonio and Mary Distasio Conte. She was an occupational therapist at the Newark Developmental Center, retiring in 1981. Gloria served in the US Coast Guard Spars during World War II where she was a radio operator. She was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, serving as its president, at one time. For many years, Gloria worked for the Board of Elections at the District #7’s voting booth in Newark. She loved to dance, belonging to several area dance clubs. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, making dolls and rugs.
Gloria was a loving wife and mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Thomas J., a son Thomas M. of Newark, three daughters Nadine Sheehan of Tucson, AZ, Kathleen (David, Jr.) Jones and Patricia Mitchell both of Newark, two grandchildren Zechariah Lombardi and Alexandra Mitchell. Also surviving are three sisters Lucille Melham of Lemoyne, PA,, Virginia Blair, Iron Mountain, MI, and Barbara Wolpers of Minnetonka, MN., several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five siblings.
