Newark—Gloria DeStaffan, age 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday (December 30, 2017) at her home in Newark, surrounded by friends and family.
Calling hours are planned for Friday (February 2nd) from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons
Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Noon on Saturday (February 3rd) at St. Michael Church, South Main Street, Newark. Following the Mass a time of fellowship and a lunch will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gloria's name to either St. Michael Church, 401 South Main Street, Newark, New York 14513 or to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Gloria was born February 3, 1924 in Syracuse and through her well-lived and compassionate life secured many stamps in her passport exploring the world. Volunteer work for the less fortunate was at her core. Her sense of duty took her to Paris France, working for NATO after World War II.
Less worldly but nonetheless passionate pursuits were as varied as she was, from the St. Michael's Rosary and Altar Society, delivering meals to community elderly and tirelessly supporting church fund raising events. She joins four super-hero sisters in heaven along with the amazing women friends that made up her life. She was a fiercely competitive game player who avidly embraced Mahjongg and her crew. Gloria, always ready with quick-wit, advice, a clever smile, and a twinkle in her eyes is survived by so many touched by her brand of magic; including her husband of 58 years, Anthony, their children and grandchildren, a brother, many nieces nephews, cousins and their families, and countless friends whose lives she has touched and enriched.
