Newark"Helen D. Garen, 93, died on Saturday (October 22, 2005) at Blossom View Nursing Home in Sodus.
Friends may call on Monday (October 24th) from 6-8 PM at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Father Peter Clifford will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM on Tuesday (Oct.25th) at St. Michael's Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery.
Memorials in her name may be made to St. Michael's Church, 401 S. Main St., Newark, NY 14513.
Mrs. Garen was born on August 4, 1912, in Ferrisburg, Vt. the daughter of John and Margaret Donavan De Courcy. Before moving to Newark in 1995, she had lived in Farmington Ct. for many years. She was a registered nurse and had worked in various hospital and schools in Connecticut. She was a member of the Pratt & Whitney Retiree Club in Farmington where she had been a welder. Helen was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Farmington and a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. In Newark, she was a communicant of St. Michael's Church.
She is survived by two sons George (Shirley) of Enfield, Ct. and James (Judy) of Newark, a daughter Kathleen (Dr. Jose) Yap of Youngstown, Oh, nine grandchildren Dean, Cheryl, Maureen, Dan, Jim, Karen, Kathy, Mary and Chris; nineteen great grandchildren. Helen was predeceased by her husband George in 2000 and a grandson Michael Garen.
