Helen L. Salamone
Newark –Helen L. Salamone, 81, died Monday (September 20, 2010) at the Clifton Springs Hospital.
Friends may call on Thursday ( September 23rd ) from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller St., Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday (September 24th) at St. Michael’s Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery.
Memorials in her name may be made to St. Michael’s School, 320 South Main Street, Newark, New York 14513.
Mrs. Salamone was born April 25, 1929, in Rochester the daughter of the late Earl and Louise Weber Smith. A 1947 graduate of Nazareth High School, she attended the University of Rochester. She was a bookkeeper in Rochester before moving to Newark in 1967. For over thirty years, she had been active in Girl Scouting, first in Rochester and then in Newark. Helen was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church, where she was a Eucharistic Minister. She volunteered doing clerical work with the Newark-Arcadia Volunteer Ambulance for over twenty years. Helen owned and operated a store in Newark “Books & Things” and helped her husband doing bookkeeping at the Newark Auto Parts. An avid bowler, she belonged to several leagues in Newark and Lyons. Helen also could be counted on to be the neighborhood babysitter.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Anthony; two sons Mark of Newark and John (Bonnie) of North Rose; two daughters Paula Orbaker of Lyons and Patricia (Kevin) McLouth of Newark; grandchildren Michael and Douglas McLouth, Jason Milke, Stacey Orbaker, Rachel and Audrey Salamone, Brandie Pollen, Jay and Robert Barbera; Matt and Mark McClosky; several great grandchildren, a brother Robert (Nola) Smith of Mooreville, NC and sister Lois (Robert) Fouquet of Spencerport, several nieces and nephews.
