Ida Israel
Newark—Ida Israel, 103, died Wednesday (February 1, 2017) at the Wayne County Nursing Home, surrounded by her family.
Friends may call from 12:30 to 2 PM on Saturday (February 4th) with a service following at 2 PM at the First Reformed Church, 18 Maple Avenue, Sodus, New York. Burial will follow the service at Fairville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations, memorials contributions may be made to the First Reformed Church, 18 Maple Avenue, Sodus, New York 14551 or the Fairville Fire Department Ambulance, 2963 Route 88 N. Newark, New York 14513.
Ida was the daughter of Peter and Minnie Fisher Leenhouts, she born on November 13, 1913, in the home where she currently resided . She enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours in her vegetable and flower gardens. Ida was the oldest member of the First Reformed Church in Sodus. For many years, she worked with the Fresh Air Fund. During that time, she made many trips to New York City to bring children to upstate New York for the summer. In her early retirement, she enjoyed spending winters in her Florida home.
Ida is survived by her children, Gladys (Carl) Tack of Newark, Lucille (Ricky) Davis of Winston Salem, NC and Laverne (Joan) Israel of Mars Hills, NC; ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; her sister-in-law Mabel VanGee of Sodus and her special pet Tiger. Ida was predeceased by her husband, Elmer Israel in 1987. Condolences for the family may be sent to
