James F. Oathout

SODUS: James F. Oathout age 79, passed away on Tuesday (October 8, 2013) at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.

Mr. Oathout was born on July 14, 1934, in North Syracuse the son of Howard and Bertha Dusky Oathout. He served 9 years in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the American Legion, Wolcott Post 881. He worked at General Electric for 8 years and then as an electrical engineer at Xerox for 28 years, retiring in 1996. In addition to his career at Xerox, for over 40 years, operated a strawberry farm in the Town of Huron to help put his children through college. He was a Scoutmaster for the Sodus Boy Scouts for several years when his sons were young.

Jim is survived by two sons James Jeffery (Ruth Meyers) of Providence, RI and Douglas (Kathleen) of Erie, PA; four daughters Susan Lee of Boynton Beach, FL, Sandra (Thomas) D’Eredita of Seneca Falls, Sally Broadus of Marion and Sherry (David) Patterson of Ontario; thirteen grandchildren Daniel and Adam Patterson, Matthew Ohler, Joshua and Jonathan Hammond, Brandon and Allison Oathout, Stephani and Valerie Broadus, Hilarie and Bethany Diver, Erin and Alexander Lee; nine great grandchildren; a brother Charles (June) of Red Creek and his best and long-time friend Mabel Harvey of Canandaigua, several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his wife Catherine, and a sister Mick Hogan and brother Howard, Jr.Friends may call from 4-8 P.M. on Friday  (October 11, 2013) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday at the funeral home.
