Jan Dayton
Newark, New York –Jan Dayton, 69, died Friday (October 22, 2010) at his home in Manchester after a brief illness.
Friends may call on Wednesday (October 27th) from 3 to 5 pm at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller St. in Newark. A Funeral Service will follow the calling hours at 5 PM. Burial will be at 11 A.M. on Friday (Oct. 29th) in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellsville.
Mr. Dayton was born on November 1, 1940, in Wellsville, New York. the son of Woodrow and Evelyn L. (Sibble) Dayton. He spent his childhood in Detroit, Michigan and Wellsville, New York where he graduated from Wellsville High School in 1958. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force and upon his discharge, he returned to Wellsville where he later married and had two sons. He worked at Worthington Corporation until 1970 when he relocated his family to Newark, New York. He was a Sales Service Manager at Foldpak Corporation for several years. During this time period, he volunteered his time to the Vince Lombardi Football League and also assisted with the Little League program in Newark. He later worked at Ultra Tech in Newark, Eastman Kodak in Rochester, and finally at Mutec Corporation in Columbus, Georgia where he remained until his retirement. As part of his employment at Mutec, he traveled to many countries around the world. Upon retiring, he returned to the Wellsville area and then to Manchester where he resided until his death.
Jan is survived by his two sons Brian C. Dayton of Van, Texas and Jeffrey R. (Sharon) Dayton of Newark, New York; seven grandchildren Angela, Robert, Rebecca and Jacob Dayton of Tyler and Mineola, Texas; Alexandria East and Logan and Holly Dayton of Newark; three great grandchildren in Texas Kaylyn, Kenzli and Lane. He was predeceased by his mother in 2000 and brother Jere in 1993.
