Newark—Jeanette Kimber Sleight, passed on Saturday (June 20, 2015) surrounded by her family.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday (June 25st) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Where a funeral service will follow at 7 P.M.. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Donations may be made to the House of John, 14 Spring Street, Clifton Springs, New York 14432.

Jeanette was born on November 3, 1951, daughter of Harold and Elizabeth “Betty” Kimber of Irondequoit. She spent her childhood attending Jose' Rogers Elementary School and West Irondequoit High School. Jeanette attended SUNY Empire State College earning her BS degree in Social Sciences. After marrying Stephen Sleight on June 15, 1979, they moved to Newark where Jeanette had relatives, they hoped to live out the rural lifestyle. Jeanette raised her two children, Elizabeth and Jacob while embarking on her lifelong love of learning and doing new things. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, painting, gardening, raising animals, cooking and bird watching especially. She loved to watch the birds and identify them by their songs. Jeanette had many careers while keeping a close watch on her family. She was coordinator of Emergencey Youth Housing in Wayne County, she was a substitute teacher, co-owned a wallpaper and interior painting business for a few years as well as being a mason helper and making stained glass. Jeanette loved and was very proud of her friends and family and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Stephen, their daughter Elizabeth, son Jacob: his wife Erin and grandchildren Lucas, Nathan, Josslyn and Clara all of Newark; two sisters Rebecca and Dorothy Bouille and their families
