Joan E. MacKay

Newark---Joan E. Mac Kay, 63, died on Sunday (February 22, 2009) at the Clifton Springs Hospital after a long illness.

A mass will be announced at a later date. There will be no prior calling hours.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Finger Lakes Hematology & Oncology Center, 6 Ambulance Drive, Clifton Springs, New York 14432 or the Wayne County Humane Society, 1475 County House Road, Lyons, New York 14489.

Mrs. MacKay was born on November 9, 1945 in Boston, the daughter of the late John and Etta Griffin Benoit. She loved to cook. Joan worked in food service at the Armstrong Living Center. She was a member at August Mauer Post, American Legion and the Arcadia Memorial Post where she was also a bartender and cook. She was a member of St. Michael Church and the Fairville Volunteer Fire Department.

Joan is survived by her husband of 29 years, John D., her children William (Michele) Wemesfelder of Ontario, Kimberlee (Brian) Wheeler of North Rose, Mark (Kimberly) Wemesfelder of Marion, Jacqueline Mac Kay of Dansville, Dawn (Paul) Sirface of Hagerstown, MD, John (Suzanne) MacKay of McMurray, PA, Michael (Cathleen) MacKay of Catlett, VA, Scott (Michelle) MacKay of Canandaigua, Robert (Mijan) MacKay of Fredericksburg, VA; twenty-nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren; a brother John (Carol) Benoit of FL.
