John W. Arend “Jack”
Unadilla—Jack Arend, 62, of Unadilla, Georgia, died Wednesday (October 7, 2009) at the Emory University Transplant Center in Atlanta, Georgia, after a courageous battle with a long illness.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 P.M. on Tuesday (October13th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark, New York. Funeral services will follow at 4 P.M. with Rev. Roger Smith officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be at 2 P.M. on Wednesday (October 14th) in St. Peter's Cemetery in Bainbridge, New York. Memorials, in his name, may be made to the Emory Transplant Center, 1364 Clifton Road RE Box 7, Atlanta, Georgia 30322 or to a favorite charity of your choice.
Mr. Arend was born on October 22, 1946 in Utica, New York, the son of Lewis and Helen Harris Arend. He graduated from Newark High School in 1965, the NY State College at Morrisville and RIT in Rochester, NY. Jack served in the US Army for ten years. H e was stationed in Korea and Germany. Prior to moving to Unadilla, Jack had lived in Sidney, N.Y. and in North Carolina. He retired from IT Technologies in 2008 due to his illness.
He is survived by his devoted wife Sandra, his children Brent Arend and Mandie Davis of Rocky Mount NC, a step-daughter Greshian Aldridge of Hawkinsville, GA, grandchildren, his siblings-
Phyllis Evans of Georgetown, NY, Joey Gilmore of Modesto, CA, Ted (Van) Arend of Boston, MA, Elie (George) Bump of Lyons, NY, Gary (Pam) Arend of North Rose, NY, several nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his parents and his first wife Kathryn Taft Arend in 1997.
