Joseph E. Carr
Newark-Joseph Edward Carr, 88, died on Thursday (March 20, 2014) at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Friends may call from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. on Thursday (March 27th ) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday (March 28th ). Burial will be in Sampson Veteran Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Mr. Carr was born on August 17, 1925 in Syracuse, the son of Joseph E. and Jean Benson Carr, Sr. During World War II, he served in the US Navy as a gunner on a patrol bomber in the Pacific Theater. Joe returned to school after the war and graduated from New York State University at Oswego. He taught at the Forman Center, BOCES in Fairport for 23 years, retiring in 1988. Joe loved teaching and working with his students as he taught them auto repairs.
He was a member of the Newark Fire Department and life member of both the August Mauer American Legion and Arcadia Memorial Post VFW. Joe was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hiking, camping and traveling.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joyce; daughters Charlotte (Peter) Fowles and Susan (Charles) Camp both of Newark and a son Guy (Laurene) of Rochester; four grandchildren Mark and Shelly Kress, Perry Gay and Mindy Riley; seven great grandchildren; siblings Beverly (Don) Van Hoover, John (Barbara), Charlotte (Thomas) Damick, Robert (Rita), Donald (Lois), Margaret (Norman) Percy, Timothy and Charles; many nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his brother Richard, sisters Jean Carr, Mary Wadelle, Catherine Pellicano and Barbara Mock.
